Busy Day

It seems like it has been a busy day, although I did manage to get in a nice nap! I couldn't help it, when Kimball fell asleep I feel asleep holding him! But it's okay, now I can stay up later working on Friday night sew in!!

This morning I went down to Springville to do some filing with my Mother in law. They are putting a huge pipe in the road infront of her house and so it's quite an adventure to get there. I dropped off Rose and Derek's quilt, Wandering Rose, and some pillows I made for them. They match their curtains. It was really easy, but something I can cross it off my list.

Then after the boys came home from school we went to the post office. It was rather interesting, 2 autistic boys in a small area with about 20 people...we were a little bit anxious! But I had quite a few things to mail off...

Then we grabbed some dinner and came home. The boys are having fun playing and watching a movie and I have my Friday Night Sew In project...more teacher apprecation stuff. These are cut outs for the mini quilts for the aids!

I am hoping that I will get it them all put together (4) tonight and so that I can finish them tomorrow and quilt them. * Also do you like the crayon colorings on my mat? Kimball thought it needed to be more colorful!*

Teacher Apprecation Door Hanging

For Teacher Apprecation week, we are asked to make a door hanging for our teacher's door. I decided long ago that I would like to make something more than just something made of paper. I figured that Nathan's teacher could keep this for the following years, and so she won't forget my boys!

Some may say that I outdid myself or I spent too much time on it, but I had a LOT of fun making it and enjoyed it very much. It came together very quick and I think Nathan's teacher will LOVE it!

With Nathan's class there are several aids in the class as well. I need to get a head count, because I am planning on making something similar to this for them, although I can't decide if I am going to make a mini quilt or a pillow for the teachers....what would you want? Teacher appreciation week is next week so I will make the aid's gifts this weekend. So I need your help, mini quilt or pillow?

Neighborhood Quilting Sampler Quilt Along

I love quilt alongs, I am following at least 3 different ones right now. They are such a great way to learn new techniques as well as make a variety of different quilts. I am currently planning a Neighborhood Quilting class for my local church members and any who is interested in coming. I will be making tutorials for each of the blocks we will making for everyone so I decided to post it on my blog as well.

This quilt will be a sampler quilt of 12 different blocks. They are on the easy side for beginners. The quilt size will be about 54"x68". I will be using a background color and 5 different colors in the quilt. Everyone is more than welcome to use more or less, but I wouldn't go much less than 4 colors. Here is the fabric requirements:

Background- 2 yards

Border- 2 3/4 yards (this is an estimate, not 100% sure)

Dark brown-1 yard

Light brown 1-3/4 yards

Light brown 2-1/2 yard

Dark pink-1 yard

Light pink -1 yard

Backing: 3 1/2 yards

Binding: 1/2 yard

Batting: twin size or 60"x72"

The first class will be on April 24th, so I will then start posting the block tutorials. I have made a sketch of what the quilt will look like, both of using the colors I have in mind as well as a blank one for those that would like to color in what colors and whatnot. I will include those here for those that would like to use them.

Author Fair

Brandon's school had an Author's Fair last night. They had been working hard on creating a story with a beginning, middle and end. It was a nice story about a snake chasing a rabbit and then eating him in the end. I have been told that it's normal for boys and since it isnt gory it's nothing to worry about, but I tell you what, I was VERY nervous when Brandon read it to me. Brandon also got a cute little medal to go with it.

This is Brandon's teacher, Mr. Robles. He has never before had a child with autism in his classroom so this year has been a big learning curve for him and me. But he has been a wonderful teacher and is more than willing to try new things and make allowances for Brandon. I hope next year Brandon will get a teacher like that again.

Pinwheel quilt along blocks

I was behind again on the pinwheel quilt along but was able to get all caught up last night.

It seems no matter what I can't get my seams or measurements right, oh well it will turn out find in the end. I am really excited about this quilt and can't wait until it is done!
