My First Giveaway!

To celebrate my 300th post I am going to do my first giveaway! Some may ask why I do a giveaway, and it't because I would like to "pass on" some good fortune I have received from winning some giveaways myself! So you may ask, what am I giving away? Well I thought about it, and decided upon giving away charm pack.

One place that I LOVE to shop at because of the fast shipping, friendly customer service and the post important thing of all....the LOW PRICES! This play is the Green Fairy Quilt Store. I just love it! And to top it off they are constantly doing specials...for instance, right now (it ends today) they are doing a sale, spend $10 and get a free Kanas trouble charm pack or turnover. Isn't that sweet?? So you are just getting a LOT more for your money. And since that is always to be low in my house, I love to buy from her! So check out her blog too! The Green Fairy Lady blog!
It is Nostalgia from Moda. Now you may ask, what do I have to do to win it??

1. Comment on this post and say...hey I want that, and I think you are the BEST person in the world! (Okay not the last part but a Hi is okay)
2. If you become a follower or already are a follower you will get another entry! Make sure you enter another comment to let me know! :D Because lets face it, I love it when people look at my humble blog!

The contest/giveaway will end on Monday, March 15th at 9am MST. So good luck!

Thinking...

I have been thinking lately, and if I said this to my husband he would ask me if it hurt....so let me save you the step incase you were "thinking" it. Yes it did!!!

First off I am preparing for a quilting class that I am giving next month for those that are interested in it (I am so nervous!) But while at the library checking out books I came along this book....
I started reading it and couldn't put it down! Lisa Boyer wrote it from her point of view on quilting! Let me just say that she is FUNNY! I LOVE IT! She has another book too that I checked out called "Stash Envy". At first I just it was so funny, but as it went on it made me think, and this is where the "hurting" began! It changes the way I look at quilting, and made me more proud of my work. Also it made me ask the question "Why do you quilt?"

So let me ask you, why do you quilt? Why do you go through the hours of working with stubborn fabric. Do you do it so that you can show off your work...and say "hey look at me?" Do you quilt so that you can use your quilt or use them for art?

I realized that quilting is not the same for everyone, and how I look at quilting may be completely different from the person in the same quilting class. Does it make mine any less important or less beautiful? NO! And it takes a lot for me to say that because I am such a people pleaser!!! For instance I  was emailing back and forth between a fellow quilter and she didn't like my choice of batting....what did I do?? Cried for a little bit, but then I refocused and realized that my quilting is for me...where are the quilts that I have made? They are on my bed! They are on my children's beds and that is what I wanted. My children and husband loves my quilts. And if I have ever needed to know if my quilts are good enough, look at my children's eyes when they got their new quilt. So for me, I am more of a practical use of the quilt, they aren't for a quilting show or ment to be in a museum, they are ment to be used. So if my corners don't end up a perfect 90 degree angle, I am okay and I am not going to stress about it. It's a learning curve for me and I am fine with that. Now the hard part is to keep this idea in my head and when I get " judged" again for my quilting techniques....I can hold my head high and know that it works for me.
(I just realized I don't have a picture of Nathan and his quilt... I will fix that today!!!)

Family History Monday

*Last week I forgot to do my Family History question, so today I will do two!

What was the house you were raised in (apartment, farm, etc.) like? How many rooms? Bathrooms? Did you have eletricity? Indoor plumbing? Telephones?

I lived in two houses growing up. On on a ranch (now that Jeff, my twin brother lives in) and one in Greeley (Evans). On the ranch it was just a simple home, looking at it now it's small, but growing up it seemed big. There were four bedrooms. I shared one with Jenni and Jeff and Joe shared a room. We had one small bathroom, but once again it seemed big to me. The kitchen seemed huge because once I remembered I need to scrub the floor and it seemed like forever. Since we lived on the ranch we were outside a lot and played everywhere. It was fun. And since I was born in 1983, we did have indoor plumbing, electricity and telephones.

When I was in 5th grade....we moved to Evans. My parents and older sister Jenni and her family still live there. This house seemed huge since it was bigger and that it is a bi-level. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs and 3 downstairs. At first Jenni and I shared a room but we evenutally got our own. We turned the family room downstairs into 2 different rooms. This house had 2 bathrooms and a bigger kitchen than our other house. It also had a nice size yard in the back.

What was your proudest moment as a parent?

Well since my oldest is only 7 years old and my youngest is 2 years old, I don't have a lot of time to look back on. But my proudest moments are always happening. When I see Brandon and Nathan succeed at something we are working on. Before they had so much trouble in public and at home and had a lot of struggles, but now seeing them overcome them makes me very happy because I know how much they have worked on it as well as me. But I am so proud of my children whenever they do something good. When they help each other out or share or gives each other loves. It also makes me very happy and proud when they remember a scripture snb tory or remember what angel is on top of the temple. The fact that whenever we are in a room together, Nathan always says, "We are all together as a family, lets say a family prayer." I am proud of each of my boys and the small accomplishments they make each day and I love them very much. I also look forward to many more "proud" moments that will happen in the future.

Pinwheel Design

I have taken a liking to creating some simple fun quilt designs! I created one and submitted it to Moda Bake Shop and HOPEFULLY they like it enough to feature it! *Cross your fingures please!* And then I am making some quilts for Travis's siblings. I am giving myself a year to do it, and so far I have plans for 3 quilts out of the 6 I am planning on making. Right now I am working on April and Dave's quilt. April wants a purple quilt, and since I am in a quilt along with pinwheels, I decided to design a pinwheel quilt for her. She wanted purple so I will be doing it in different shades of purple. Here is one block done. I am just giving a sneak peak....(haha April). But I am rather liking it ALOT!
