School Halloween Assembly

With the boys at their new school, they don't have an official Halloween party. They have had Red Ribbon week all last week, and then finished the week with everyone dressing up. Each class did a chant or song that they then performed for the parents. The K-2 were in the same area and performed together.
Kimball was a little shy before everything started.
Nathan's poor head kept hitting the kids around him.
You can find Brandon in the back hiding! He was mad because he couldn't come over and see us. So he tucked his head in!
Here is the Kindergarten teacher playing his guitar, they sang a cute little song.
Here is the resource class doing their chant. It was fast.....and I just got it as they were leaving.
Here is kinda the big group of them all. We met in the library, with the kids on one half of the room and the parents on the other. I am glad they split the school up, I don't know if they could have all fit in here!

And then there were 3.....

I was able to finish both Brandon's and Kimball's costumes just in time for the School Party on Friday.
Here is Sponge Bob....I mean Brandon. I used towels to make his costume, wooden dowels to make it square, and then I did some appliqué. I did then stitching to finish it up. Brandon painted (or used colored paint markers) to make his socks.
Here is Kimball from behind. I made a sandwich board type of costume for him, I am really glad that I did because he kept wanting it off and on. I used a Thomas the train pre-quilted quilt that I found at a thrift store. I cut out the main Thomas and then cut out the rest of the trains and wording and appliquéd it to the back of the sandwich board.
You can't really tell, but I did embroidery on all the lines and outlines of Thomas. I wanted it to stay in tact when we would later wash it. Luckily- or should say "of course" we had some Thomas clothing to wear underneath.

I wish I could have done a better photo shoot of these two costumes but You an only do what your children will let you.

Making Treats

Sometimes I never know why I do things, I just get a notion in my head and they don't stop until I get it done! So I had the BRILLIANT idea of making treats for all of the boy's new teachers! Okay so want to know how many there are?? Roughly 35!! I must be crazy!! So I have made pumpkin rice crispy treats, pumpkin cookies, chocolate pumpkin cookies and caramel popcorn. I didn't get pictures of the last things but I did the rice crispy's.

Granted I have made extra to give away to neighbors and some people in our ward (church). I am ALMOST done with it all. I ran out of caramel popcorn, but I have popped the popcorn already....just need to make the caramel.

I am glad that I am about done though, and looking back I have NO idea why I get this into my head that I need to make so much!! Although I am ALREADY planning to make a bunch of candy for Christmas. I am making some for church and then teachers and just kinda presents for Christmas. I need to decide on what kind of candy I want to make, and then start EARLY and make it! Thank goodness I like to bake and make candy!

Although checking out the Fall Blogger's Festival quilts it has made me miss quilting!!! So who knows I might pull an all nighter and make one! I miss it!! Or maybe get catched up on all my quilting bee blocks, finish some quilting projects, make some quilting backs.....ahhh the cycle of wanting to start something new!!!

Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival 2010

For this Blogger's Festival I decided to post my Astor Manor Happy Trails quilt. I haven't been able to get as much quilting done this year as I had hoped! I have a lot of started projects but that is about as far as I am getting!

I LOVE Moda's fabric Astor Manor by 3 Sisters. I have also started another quilt with this fabric and I have used my scraps and made little projects all over the house. I just love it!!

I started this quilt in March and finished it last month. It is an easy fun quilt that now resides on my couch! I love this quilt!

Builder

Nathan tells me that when he grows up he is going to be a builder. Unfortunately he is practing in my house! He takes blankets, pillows toys and anything else that he can find to build, "houses", "sheds", "gates", and anything else he is playing that day.

Houses and sheds and now gates are now banned from the house. I am tired of finding my newly washed blankets on the floor and pillows all down in a corner.

I couldn't resist taking a few pictures of Nathan's gate. A day later the gates were banned as it blocked everyone downstairs from going anywhere unless you climbed over EVERYTHING!
The gate

Nathan was very proud of it

Here is his gate being lifted

He gave me a Pokemon card to use as my "ticket"

Here is his swipe machine

I think that if he still wants to be a builder when he grows up, he will be a good one!

Bliss Giveaway

Bliss is a new line from Moda by Bonnie and Camille. It is VERY popular! So when I saw that Little Bluebell was having a giveaway I did everything I could to win! So go check it out and enter to win!
I have a jelly roll and 2 charm packs of this and am not exactly sure what I have enough fabric to make, so this fat quarter bundle would make my possibilities endless!!

1 down 2 to go!

This Halloween I am making the boys their own costumes. In the past years I ended up just buying them for them but I think I am becoming more comfortable in my sewing capabilities.

Nathan wants to be a Long neck dinosaur. Kimball wants to be Thomas (big surprise). Then Brandon wants to be Sponge Bob. So lets begin!!

Presenting Nathan the Long Neck Dinosaur!!

He had a very hard time standing still...he kept walking towards me

Her he is "eating" He like this position a lot

I took a sweat suit that I bought at a thrift store, and then an extra pair of pants (one size bigger). Used the pair of pants to make the tail. I made the tail attachable with a button so that he can take it off and on. I then took the other leg and the waist part to make the head. I filled the head with stuffing (and the tail) then the waist part I put elastic around the face area to keep it tight. Then I sewed the head to the neck of the sweat shirt.
I then took an old pair of black sweat pants and cut circles and triangles to make the spots and spikes. I made triangles into a pocket and Nathan helped me fill the triangles with stuffing. I then sewed them on to the tail and back. I then glued the circles on the back part of the head, shirt, tail and pants. I then did a blanket stitch around the circles in a bright green thread.

The only problem I am having now is that the head is wobbling and won't stay on his head! I am at a loss as to how to stabilize it.
I used some more black sweat pants to make the mouth and eyes and then I did some detail work. Nathan wanted to have him "roaring" but since Long Necks don't eat meat we had to give him appropriate teeth.
Nathan likes to walk around on all fours to become more like the dinosaur.
I think I have created a monster! He loves his little outfit, and I expect that as soon as Halloween is over he will want to be in his costume all the time!! Thank goodness it is made out of sweat suits so it's comfortable!

Bee Block Catch up

I have gotten behind on my bee blocks!! AHHH!! I used to be so good and would stay on top of these things but alas I am not perfect! So here are some AWESOME blocks that I made (okay maybe not awesome, but good).

For my 1 year 12 quilts, this block is for Geri. She had this adorable doll pattern piece that she wanted us to use. Then she asked us to embellish it for us. This was the August block! I had my September blocks that I sent out.

I added hair to her, she just seemed to need it! I really like how it turned out, and I think that even if she washes her quilt, I made it so it won't fray.
Isn't she pretty? I like the necklace too!

I was trying a new thing, I stitched in white beads to the hem of the skirt

For the Pretty in Pink Bee, this is for Lisa. She wanted a string bee. I did the traditional type of block and then made two long rectangle blocks.
I can't remember completely but I think this is a 10" block

I think this is the more traditional string block

This is the two rectangle blocks. I really liked the colors that she picked and I can't wait to see what she puts together!
The the last block that I have done is for the Round Robin bee that I am in. Unfortunately we have had such an issue with some of our members!! Apparently one of our members is holding some blocks hostage!! :( You just never know what is going through some people's head!! But these are Margaret's blocks.
She wanted a Christmas tree block. Any type of trees we wanted. Last night I just went to town and enjoyed making a wonky style block

When I was putting this one together I accidentally sewed my bottom piece on before I added the "log" oops. Oh well I am really enjoying this look better. I originally was going for up and down stripes.

This was more of a free hand wonky tree

Here is her collection of trees! She has some nice trees! It is going to be one pretty quilt!

Even though I have 3 sets of bee blocks done I still have about 3 or 4 more that I still need to do!! I have to go through my pile, now when you get a pile that is bad!! LOL

Family Birthday Party

Just on Travis's side of the family alone, we have 5 different birthdays, and I have 2 siblings with an October birthday. I wish I was on top of things and was able to send everyone birthday cards and remember everyone's birthday but I am not that good. So first and for most, Happy Birthday to October peeps!

Also since most of Trav's family is in the same area we had an October Birthday party. I does include all November and December birthdays, but I think we will have another party before then. But we had All of Trav's siblings, except for one that lives in north Idaho and then we had 1 step sister from Northern Utah and 1 step sister from Ely Nv. So we had quite a few people. Okay so I feel that people just wanted to come and takes my famous brownie cake!! (Okay so maybe I am dreaming).
There were a total of 10 grand children there 9 boys and 1 girl! My boys had so much fun playing is cousins that they don't see often.
We ate some tacos outside and then had cake and ice cream.
We had different people in different groups all over the back yard. (Too many names too)
We had kids playing on the swing set....
Playing on the slide.....Thanks goodness Grandma and Grandpa has some nice lawn toys
 We had people chilling everywhere
Here is Brandon on top of a slide. He was so cute!
Here is little Riley, the only girl in a yard full of boys.

I posted this picture of Uncle Derek, mostly to embarrass him. I told them all to say cheese and somehow when I took the picture he had a little smooch look on his face.

This is Carson and Riley, they are siblings, they are almost the opposite of my boys. They are calm children! But they are so loving! I loved this picture!
Here is me and Trav, I don't realize I look so tired! But I have been tired a lot lately.
Here is my brownie cake! 3 boxes of brownies to make a 3 layered cake. I used ganache for the filling and then warmed it up again and poured it over the cake.
It was VERY VERY good, but very rich! So next time I am going to make maybe only 2 layers but use something different for the filling and then just a regular chocolate frosting for the frosting.
How doesn't that just make you crave chocolate? Okay I need to eat some now.....
We had the older boys playing basket ball.
Here are all of our October Birthdays....
I think almost everyone took a piece of the brownie cake. We did have left overs too that the boys took with them to school for lunches the following week.
Here is Brandon and Riley. He thought she was very cute and wanted to play with her, too bad she didn't want to swing anymore.

I don't think we have too many November birthdays, but I think I can talk everyone into another party, especially if I make another cake!
