Sweet Grandma Rita!

This week my Sweet Grandma Rita left her body and is now in Heaven with our Savior. My Grandma has been surviving from ASL (Lou Gerrie disease) for the past few years and it has finally taken her life. Even with her struggles with this disease she has been upbeat and and content with her role and how the disease would affect her. She and her sister who struggled with cancer the last bit of her life had a saying. "Don't count the days, make the days count". What a testament to what type of woman my Grandmother was.

I have very fond memories of my Grandma and that is what I will think about as I mourn for her. But I am not completely sad because now I know she can walk and talk again. She is with other family members who have passed on and is happy now. I also know that it is just a short time until I will see her again. I KNOW with out a doubt that I will see her again and she will be waiting to give me a hug when I see her again. She is with my Savior as I know she lived a wonderful life to be able to live with him again.
I love you Grandma! My Sweet Grandma Rita!

While my Mom was in town last week we decided to go bowling. The boys had a lot of fun and even though Travis was getting over being sick it was still fun to watch the kiddos bowl.

The kids actually did a good job at taking their turns. A game with 5 players can be a long time.

I am not sure if you can see this real well, but Nathan would bowl and then lay on the floor and watch his ball
After Kimball bowled, he would but his hands on his cheeks and watch.

Then Cali would take a running push!
Brandon and Nathan took mine and Grandma Longan's camera and took pictures. We got some INTERESTING pictures!

May Bee blocks

I made it!! I was able to get all of my May bee blocks done! For the Friday Night Sew in I was able to get all 3 of my bee blocks done.

Pretty in Pink Bee

Ricks Blocks

My blocks

1 year 12 quilts bee:

Susan's blocks

My blocks

Round Robin bee:

I make my own block of each of the month's blocks. I hope to by the end of the year have a quilt made for a keepsake of the quilting bees that I have been in. Although today I realized that I haven't really been keeping colors coordinated or have a particular theme color for them. SO either it is going to look AWESOME, or really really BAD!

Crazy Mix Up

When I first thought about doing the Blogger's Quilt Festival, I decided not to because I didn't think that my work was worthy of it and that my quilting wasn't that good. But after thinking of it, I decided that who cares. I have very loved and cared quilts and that is something to be proud of.

I have decided to enter my Crazy Mix Up quilt. It right now describes me! Pull a little bit of this and that to make this block, cut that block up and put it together and you get a very Pretty quilt. Individual blocks may not be that "good looking" or nicely put together, but when you step back and look, you see a very creative and colorful quilt. Like me!

When I made this I was apart of the Old Red Barn Quilt Along and followed along on one of the quilt alongs. I learned new block styles that I had never tried or thought of trying before.

The fabric I used was mostly hand me downs that were given to me that were passed from person to person. Then other fabrics were found in the dollar bin at Walmart. I think they all turned out very nice, creative and pretty.

It currently rests on my bed and has been there for several months. It is one of my husband's FAVORITE quilts and that in and of itself makes it priceless to me.

Friday Night Sew In

Oh it's that time again!! I just have to say that I am VERY VERY excited to do it because my quilting time lately has been slackly due to (whatever reasons) and I have PLANNED for this night and I am going to ignore everything and just sew!! SO....if you haven't signed up go and sign up over and Handmade by Heidi and sign up to win an awesome giveaway for doing what you love to do anyway....SEW!!

Nathan got a special present from Grandma Longan...a Spiderman mask! HE LOVES IT! As soon as we got it, he put on his costume and his mask and stayed in it all night. My boys love costumes and are always wearing them. We used to wear them EVERYWHERE, but are now back to just wearing them after school and SOMETIMES to the store.
We might have to see if we can find a Venom mask for Brandon. He got a new batman mask but he really likes the spiderman one.

Mother's Day Gift

****If you are looking for the giveaway, click here. Also the giveway will close tomorrow at 5pm MST.****

While my Mom was here we visited MANY quilt shops. At one we found a nice apron for my sister Jenni. So my Mom bought the supplies and I made it. The good part is I got to keep the pattern so I can make one for me eventually. Jenni really loved the apron! It is so soft (made from Moda fabric) that I don't want her to clean in it!! I would just wear it all day and feel the softness of the fabric.
(Maybe Jenni can send me a picture of her in her apron and I can share it! )

Nathan's Obession

If you are looking for the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway, click here.

With autistic children they often create obsessions, or as the book (a large medical book) explains it, repetitive behavior. Nathan's obsession is rocks. He LOVES rocks. He started collecting them outside and made a "rock home" for them. Then when he got a little bag of pretty rocks last week, Travis mentioned it to a friend at work. Turns out Travis's friend, Jared LOVES rocks too! He got so excited to share is rocks that he went home and got Nathan some rocks that Travis could take home. So this morning we had a little treat to give Nathan, and let me tell you...he has done nothing but look at his rocks since! Do I see a geologist in the future for Nathan? Who knows!

Right now this one is Nathan's favorite because it is the biggest

Nathan's new collection, or shall we say his collection is growing

This is Daddy's has it's own caves inside

This is Nathan's second favorite, it is call his "popcorn rock"

We then got the flashlight out so we could shine the light on the rocks so that they would sparkle. That was a BIG hit.

Overall we have one happy little boy!! Kimball has been following him around all morning trying to see his rocks too! Nathan has even asked Dad to make him a shelve in his room so he can put all of his rocks on it. Thanks  Jared!!

Busy Weekend

This weekend has been full of fun and hard work! Once a year we head up to Rigby, Idaho and do some yard work for Travis's Grandma. We usually get 1, sometimes 2 full days of hard work. With 6+ people you can get quite a bit done.
This is the field right next to the house. They bred Llamas! They had a little baby llama and it was SO cute!
Here is a little station that Travis's Grandpa built. In the Beazer family it is a given that trains are in your blood. Travis's Great Grandpa built this for an amusement park in Idaho Falls ages ago but ended up moving it back to their house. So it has now been in the family for 3 generations. We (Uncle Syd) always make sure that it is taken care of and the tracks are clear so that we can always have a ride. Local scouts, schools and church groups are always asking for rides.
Aunt Rosie taking a train ride during lunch.
Nathan and Kimball waiting for the train to go, every time someone said train, they would  RUN and get on the train.
Travis and Me posing
Some getting in some last bit of work before lunch
We finally get sat down and had a VERY good lunch.
After lunch we head out the "forest" (a piece of land that has a cabin built 40 years ago by Travis's Grandpa). It is in desperate need of a new roof.
It has 3 levels inside and has a nice stove in the middle. The boy scouts in the area use this cabin for their winter camp outs.
There is a swing there that is one of the highlights of the area. Here is Aunt Ruth Ann pushing Nathan.
Here is Brandon having fun on it to.
Here is the group of us getting the panels drilled and ready to go up.
Before we got rid of the tin roof we had to get into the last bit of running up the roof in. The older "boys" had a little contest to see who could go the highest (I didn't get any pictures of them) but afterwards the little boys had to try. I was told this is a family tradition! Too bad it has to end.
Here is a group "supervising" the work party. Grandma was there to make sure it was getting done.
Brandon found the tin top to the chimney and put it on his head and started to run into guess
But after awhile it's just not as fun so he got out his new kite and took it for a spin. Too bad it wasn't a little more windy.
Nathan got to help out by measuring, he went around and measured everything he could get his hands on.

We were able to get most of the roof done, we ran out of the roofing. It looks very pretty now and will keep the scouts VERY warm during the winter.

Kimball even got into the spirit and helped gather firewood
For dinner we had a weeny roast over the trimmings we got from the bushes and trees.
Grandpa Walker and Riley waiting for their dinner. They were so cute together. Grandpa who is over 6 feet holding Riley's hand who is under 3 feet!
The boys had fun, although their food was covered in ashes.
We finished our meal off with some smores and then off to bed. Some ended up watching a movie and other playing wii before bed. I personally fell asleep on the couch watching Travis play wii with his cousin.
(next generation of train conductors)
But before we could turn in and call it a night we had to get one more ride on the train.

With sore muscles, sun burns, and tired kids we all head home. Even though we do end up with sore muscles, sun burns and tired kids we will keep doing this service for our Grandma Beazer for years to come. Nothing feels as good as a nice service project with your family.
