Can't Get Enough

Earlier in the week Brandon was late getting home from school. The school is just across the street and Brandon has been walking to and from school. I usually expect him 5 minutes after his school is let out. Well on this particular day he was 15 minutes late! I was wondering where he was and getting very worried! Kimball was taking a nap so I could go out to the street and see if I could see him. I come out and this is what I see. (He was doing this on the street and by the time I got my camera this is where he was).
He was reading and walking at the same time all the way home!

Once inside we had a talk about how we cross the street and that it isn't a good idea to read and walk at the same time. We also talked about that he can read his books at home and it would be safer not to read while walking. I also told him that I was very worried because he was so late! As much compassion as Brandon can show he told me he was sorry and we haven't had a promise since.

Little Chefs

I have been feeling better latey so when Brandon asked if he could make something, I thought "why not". So he ran upstairs and he got his pretend/real chef's hat and apron and came down stairs. We were going to make rice crispy treats.

(By this time he was so TIRED of me taking pictures)

Like Father like son, Brandon wanted the stirring spoon when everything was all done

They were a BIG success!

Then for dinner they asked if they could help make it. I thought since cooking with Brandon was so easy and wasn't stressful we could try dinner. Brandon dropped out after a few minutes. He wanted to watch cartoons more than cook since he already did his. So it was just me and Nathan. I had to help a lot more since we were working with eggs and a stove, but he did great.

We had Tongan Pancakes. When Travis was on his mission, they ate so much Top Roman they had to come up with creative ways to eat it. When we were first married Travis made this for me and it has been a favorite since.

You take a package of top roman and split it into two ( you may need to run it under water to break it up a little) then dip it into an egg that you beat on a plate. You take the two seperate top roman pieces (pancakes) and dip each in the egg on both sides and then put it into a pan and fry it on both sides until the egg is cooked. Pour the extra egg left onto the two pancakes. When you turn the pancake over to cook the second side, place a piece of american cheese on each one. This will have the cheese nice and melted. While those cook get 2 pieces of bread (one for each pancake) and put a little bit of your favorite bbq sauce on it. Then place the cooked pancakes on each piece of bread and there you have it. A Tongan Pancake! (Thinking back he could have created this with his Tongan companion....but I am not sure)

Nathan's creation!

If you like Top Roman like I do, you will really like this new twist. And if you use a slice of fat free piece of american cheese, a low carb bbq sauce and low cal bread...it is approximately 300 calories. It really fills you up too!

Bar Stool covers

I have been meaning for some time to make a cushion/cover for our barstools. I always like to put covers on things because they are usually so easy to clean. So that is what I did tonight. I took an old table cloth that matched our curtains and got to work. I was very impressed how well they turned out.

Before

After

This picture makes the cover look more pink, but it actually a deep red.

Family History Monday

Last Monday I was out of town, so this Monday I will add two questions.

Who were your childhood hereos?
I don't really remember who I idolized, but I do remember when I was little, I loved my Primary teacher, Sister Southwick. She just had grace and patience, I just loved her. I am not sure where she is today. I also wanted to be like Reba McIntire when I grew up.

What were your favorite songs and music?
I grew up listening to country music. I never really got into "pop" music or any others. I always listened to country and to this day I still do. Some of my favorite songs were and still are, "God Bless the USA", and "Fancy" by Reba McIntire.  I did like learning Primary songs. I really liked "A Child's Prayer" and I loved the second part because I could remember that part better than the first.

What about you?

Valentine Pinwheel

Do you ever get in those moods to start something new? That was me yesturday. I used my charm pack from Bobbi and made pinwheels. But since a charm packet doesn't go a long way I added sashing. I really like how it turned out, now I just need to baste , quilt and  bind. This is my one and only attempt to prepare for Valentines Day. I just haven't been in the mood lately.

( I used my kitchen wall for my design wall...isn't it pretty)

Overtime for the Tooth Fairy

Brandon lost another tooth! We lost one last weekend at the cabin in Idaho and then Monday night he lost another tooth on the bottom row. Brandon was pretty sure that the Tooth Fairy could find him. I told him that the Tooth Fairy was going to run out of money if he kept loosing all of his teeth like this, but he told me, "Mom, the Tooth Fairy doesn't run out of money".

Another Giveaway

I won another giveaway! I was so shocked to see that I had won! It is for the Friday Night Sew In! The next one will be on Feburary 19th. And once again there will be another giveaway.

This came from Bobbi over and Crafty Vegas Mom. I love the new pin cushin! And with the charm pack, I don't know what to make...well a quilt...but what pattern....oh the many ideas!

Notebook Cover

I have 2 notebooks that I use pretty frequently and I usually always write something on the front to make it more personal. Then I thought, why not make a fabric cover. Well I tried using some of my fabric fabric ( Moda Astor Manor by Three Sisters) it didn't turn out quite like I wanted (see post below) and so I got out some old felt that I found.

There is room for 2 different notebooks, but the middle seperator can be tucked away if  you are just using one notebook (I think)

I think I like this version better than the fabric cover would have been

Astor Manor Table Runner

This was made COMPLETELY by ACCIDENT. I was trying to make a cover for my notebooks (see post above) but it didn't turn out what I thought it would, so what did I end up with? A nice table runner of my new favorite fabric.

If I had known what I was making, I would have made it longer.

I have never quilted like this before, but I really like it. Just straight lines. I will have to do this on a quilt some day.

This is the back of it. Very pretty in my opinion.

Just shows that things are just ment to be made....

My Round Robin Blocks

I have finally found some blocks that I liked. Pinwheel in a block. It is simple and pretty! I will be asking my  round robin group to use pinks, greens and blues with a neutral color. I can't wait to see what it will look like.

They aren't the greatest pictures, but I think you get the idea!

Flashback Friday

Snowmobiling Trip

This past weekend we had the opprotunity to go up to Island Park, Idaho for the 3 day weekend. We had a fun time with family and playing in the snow. We played games, ate, went snow mobiling, ate, watched movies, ate and just had a relaxing time. I took so many pictures, and looking at all of them I wished I would have taken more!!! I have a lot that I wanted to share!

Kimball playing in the snow. He LOVED it! He would constantly try to throw snow at you.
Daddy with Nathan and Kimball. When we first got there, Brandon didn't seem too interested in playing inthe snow, but later that day he did end up going outside and loved it.
Grandpa Walker and Uncle Syd talking about who was going to do what.
Mommy and Kimball.

Aunt April and her daughter Brittnay

Aunt Jacque, she is going to HATE me for posting this but it just shows what we all did! We ATE!
Grandma Walker and Riley talking about very important things!
We did a lot of watching tv on the nice BIG screen tv.
Then the adults got into playing the Wii

Kimball even got into it!

Great Grandma Beazer and Brittnay eating some nuts

Of course we couldn't leave home without Kimball's trains!!
Aunt Rose sticking in 3 or maybe 4 giant cheato balls into her mouth. She apparently holds the record of the most cheese balls in the mouth.

We had 4 snowmobiles and 2 four wheelers. So we all took turns on the snowmobiles and then tied sleds to the back of the four wheelers and pulled kids and adults.

Grandpa Walker and Brandon

Uncle Syd with the helper Kimball. He was throwing a snowball at Brandon
My Kimball!! He would have stayed outside all day if we would have let him.
Brandon and Uncle Wayne. We all came in after awhile and started playing games.
Travis and Aunt Melissa playing the Wii.  They were doing a disco dance along thing.
We had some very good chili the first night! This is Aunt Ruth Ann and Kimball. Not sure if Kimball was too happy to have his picture taken, he wanted to eat!
Riley eating her meal. She was so cute!

Here is Uncle Wayne, Travis and Uncle Derek playing the Wii. They were doing the dancing thing too!
And of course we had out spectators on the side taking pictures of the funny scene.

The next day with Aunt April and Sierra. Sierra was really happy but was having a silly face.

Carson eating! Did I mention we did a lot of eating?

Brandon lost another tooth there! Thank goodness the Tooth Fairy was able to find him there! He lost his second front tooth.

Daddy and Kimball doing a puzzle. Kimball did more of taking apart than help, but it's okay.
We had a side tv that we hooked up an Xbox360. Nathan had a lot of fun playing Lego Batman, and apparantly Robin is not a "cool" player.

Brandon did a lot of workbook activities

Sunday night, the adults watched movies after the kids went to bed. Brandon and Carson had some trouble going to bed, so they were laying down watching some cartoon. They thought they were some cool stuff watching tv so late like the grown-ups!

Here are all the grand kids with Great Grandma Beazer
Travis and Aunt Ruth Ann....Kimball was ready to go home.
Kimball is buckled in and has his puppy....he is ready

Brandon and Nathan are buckled in and ready to head home. They had a fun morning riding the snowmobile while Mom packed and helped clean the cabin
.
Daddy had a fun time this morning too....

And me ready to go home!! Do you see the dark circles under the eyes??

We all had a fun time and I hope we can do it again next  year. The last time we had a trip like this, it was eight years ago and Travis and I just became engaged. On the trip home we drove through Rexburg where we lived and went to college. The town is growing so much and changing. We did manage to find some of the old things. It's always a weird feeling going through a place you have once lived.
